The Shimada School of Suruga Province(駿河国島田派) traces its origins back to the mid-Muromachi period, with its founder, Yoshisuke, being the younger brother of Yoshisuke(義助), who lived during that time. The school thrived for several generations until the Shin-To period. It is challenging to differentiate the works of different swordsmiths who also used the name Sukemune during the same period. The school's style encompasses not only straight blades but also those in the style of Soshu and Muramasa, as well as Mino-influenced works. Additionally, the school is known for its skillful carvings.
