  • Alongside the esteemed Hōki no Kami Masayuki, Oku Motohira stands as a brilliant swordsmith representing the Satsuma domain. Motohira, during that time, was regarded as one of the foremost experts in creating the Satsuma Shinshintō style of swords. In the first year of Kansei, he received the title of Yamato no Kami, simultaneously with Masayuki.

His swords feature wide and robust blades with abundant hiraniku (meat on the blade), adorned with a variety of blade patterns such as gunome midare (irregular wave pattern), togari-ba (pointed tip), and aranami (roughly rendered waves), along with prominent masame hada (straight grain pattern) and sunagashi (sand-like streaks), showcasing his expertise in the style of the Sōshū tradition.
